Animal Awareness 2011

Animal Awareness Day 2011

On Friday 14th October, the School celebrated Animal Awareness Day.  Once again, we had several pets brought to our School in the morning and our students had the opportunity to meet birds, fish, hamsters, tortoises, turtles, rabbits, dogs, cats and even a crab!

We then had the Junior 1 and 2 students go on an outing to the Falconry and the Junior 3 to 6 students visit the Bird Park Malta.  In the meantime, the senior students were engaged in an activity that focused on endangered animal species.

On Thursday 13th October we had all our students bring either a tin of cat or dog food so that we build an Animal Food Pyramid out of tins here at school.  In fact, we had so much food that we managed to build two pyramids.  This food was all donated to Ms. Rita Giordano who runs her own sanctuary out of her own pockets. We thank you all for helping us help animals in need, and we are especially proud of those students who fervently took this up with so much enthusiasm!!

On Thursday 20th October Ms. Giordano visited the School to thank our School and collect all the cat/dog food donated by our School Community.  Ms. Giordano was so touched by such generosity.  In her thank you note she wrote:

"Dear all of you who helped me with all the lovely pet food donated to the sanctuary.

I wish to thank you all very much for your generosity.  It makes me so happy to know that all of you children are so helpful and loving towards the animals and myself.  It is very hard for me to cope with all the work and expenses.  Once again I would like to thank you all very much, parents and children.  Special thanks to Ms. Sue, Mr. Brian and all of the St. Catherine's staff.

May God bless you all.

Best regards,
Rita Giordano"
