The Crocus Project 2010
This scholastic year St. Catherine’s Senior 2s are taking part in The Crocus Project, which is a tangible way to introduce young people to the subject of the Holocaust and to raise awareness about the dangers of discrimination, prejudice and bigotry.
The project involves the planting of yellow crocus bulbs in autumn in memory of the one and a half million Jewish children and thousands of other children who died in the Holocaust. The yellow flowers recall the yellow Stars of David that Jews were forced to wear under the Nazi rule.
The crocus blooms at the end of January or beginning of February, around the time of international Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January). During the month of November 2010 our Senior 2s were therefore be involved in planting bulbs in the School premises (outside the School Gym) and while the flowers are growing, they will be engaged in ongoing learning about the importance of tolerance and respect.
Well done to our Senior 2s for taking up this project.
