St. Catherine's High School....since 1909

Open Day 2011

Open Day 2011

Sunday 22nd May was an unusual Sunday for us at St. Catherine’s as our School opened its doors to welcome people who might have been interested in experiencing what life at St. Catherine’s is like!  Despite the weather conditions, we had a lovely day and it was a great success.  This was written on all the happy faces of those who attended.  Read more in the Testimonials.  It was a family feast for all; a celebration of  what St. Catherine’s truly is and  a warm welcome for those prospective students and parents.

What characterized this year’s event is the involvement of our whole School community, and as the day was drawing closer the feeling of excitement and anticipation was on the increase!  The week prior to the Open Day was a busy one as different groups were mobilized in preparation for this big annual event.

This year we added a particular tinge to the Open Day, since it was characterised by an International feeling.  Those children who attended the day were provided with a ‘passport’ and were then invited to visit the different countries represented in our School on our Walk Around The Globe.  In fact, each and every class from the Pre-Junior upwards, chose a particular country to represent on that day.  From Brazil to Australia, from  Nigeria to Alaska, from Russia to Hawaii, one could enjoy a taste of different countries in just one tour! We must say that the Walk Around The Group was a hit, both amongst the students and teachers who represented the countries, as well as those who took the tour.

Apart from this main venture, we had a full programme of events and different food and beverage stalls to satisfy our appetite for something savoury or sweet!  Other major attractions were the Flutterby Parade, the celebration of Holy Mass and the Variety Show.

The Variety Show was a grand finale...very apt to close the day.  On the programme of items we had a play by the Junior 5, a number of songs by the School Choir, a re-enactment of the Tieg Malti (Maltese wedding tradition) by the Senior 1 & 2, songs by the local band X-Tend, and a dance by the Junior 6. We congratulate the School Choir for its first debut during the Open Day.  It was a good start and we hope to hear more songs from its repertoire! It was a cheerful show, very much liked by the spectators who stayed to watch it!

What a day it was!  We were exhausted by the end of it, but very happy that once again we lived a day with a felt sense of family and community.

Our Heartfelt Thanks
We take this opportunity to thank all those involved in the Open Day for their sterling work and dedication to our School.  Be they staff, students, parents or helpers, they are all an important loop in the long chain that is the extended family of St. Catherine's and the success of days like the Open Day greatly depends on people who are willing to get involved and help out.

Sunday 22nd May is Open Day and International Day for St. Catherine’s.  Our School will be open for the general public from 10:00am to 5:00pm and on this occasion a full programme of activities will take place on our premises and grounds, including a variety of activities linked to different countries of the world.

This year, however, we have added a particular tinge to the Open Day, since it will be characterized by an international feeling.  The children attending this day will be given a 'School passport' and they will then be invited to take the Walk Around The Globe and visit the different countries represented by the different classes in our School.  Let us see if the children manage to get their passport stamped by all the countries' representatives as they tour from Nigeria to Alaska, from Brazil to Australia, from Russia to Spain, and many more countries!

Kindly note that registrations for new prospective students will also be accepted on the day and for this purpose there will be School Tours taking place, one starting at 11.00am and the second one starting at 2.00pm.

This Day is another opportunity where our School community comes together to celebrate and share the St. Catherine’s family and homely ambience with others.

So please do come and join us on the day.  We guarantee fun and relaxation but also educational activities.
