Physical Education

Its Importance....
Physical Education is undoubtedly an important subject taught at St. Catherine's High School.  It develops physical literacy and helps in the psychological and social development of children.  From a very early age, children at our School are urged to participate in some kind of sport.  This helps them discover for themselves their capabilities.  As time passes their effort and enthusiasm increase as they try to improve themselves continuously with determination.  they learn to adopt lifestyles based on healthy nutrition, creative use of the media and sport activities.

Intra-School Leagues....
For both the Junior and the Senior students inter-school leagues are organised throughout the scholastic year in the disciplines of Football, Basketball, Handball and Volleyball.  These give an opportunity to all students to have a chance to participate and so improve their skills and teamwork, besides enjoying themselves by gaining points for their different Houses - Pandas, Eagles and Dolphins - always hoping to win the Champions Cup at the end of the scholastic year.

Other Activities....
Other activities are organised also during breaks for students interested in taking part in Table Tennis, Chess and Draughts competitions.  Excitement mounts before the Easter holidays when the games arrive in their final stages.  This year students were offered the possibility to practise a greater variety of different sports after school hours within their own school sports facilities.  The large number of participants clearly shows the interest and enthusiasm for a more active lifestyle and the realisation of the benefits gained from such activities.

Inter-Schools Leagues....
The M.S.S.F. (Malta Schools Sports Federation) organises tournaments throughout the year for Private and Church Schools.  Our School boys and girls take part in different competitions for the U/11, U/13 and U/16 levels, such as Football, Handball, Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball, Table Tennis and Athletics.

Athletic Sports Day...
The crowning day of the School's sports activities is without any doubt that of the annual Athletic Sports Day in May, which is divided in two sports events.  One day is for the Lower Juniors and the other day is for the Higher Juniors and the Seniors.  Most boys and girls enjoy taking part in Fun Races, Obstacle Races, Sprints, Relays, Long Jumps, Discus Throwing and Shot events.  The aim is undoubtedly participation and a better way to learn one's athletic capabilities.  It is a day which students look forward to with great eagerness!
