Trip to Venice
Following the success of last year's trip to Rome, the Senior School embarked yet in another trip in 2011. They kept to the same country, namely Italy, but the city of destination this time was Venice!
The trip took place between the 31st March and the 3rd April and a group of 26 students from the Senior 2, 3 and 4 went for this venture. One can only imagine the level of excitement and expectation that hyped the air before the day of departure arrived!
The group of students were accompanied by Ms. Paula, Ms. Josette, Ms. Giselle, Ms. Fenech and Mr. Hales.
This 4 day cultural tour was packed with activities. The students visited Venice, famous for its palaces, canals and bridges. The tour on foot took the group along the main sites such as the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark’s Basilica, the Clock Tower, the Bell Tower, the Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. A vaporetto ride to the island of Murano, famous for glass-making, was also included in the programme. In Padova, students visited St. Anthony’s Basilica amongst other places. They also had the opportunity to visit the Botanical Garden, which, created in 1545, is the oldest existing university botanical garden in the world. The Garden hosts incredibly old plants all labelled with the scientifc name of the species. The students did not only learn more about plants but also about the relationship between nature and culture. Verona, the city of the most famous lovers Romeo and Juliet, was another place included in the tour. Feltre, a small town on the edge of the Dolomite mountains, offered some breathtaking views of the mountains whereas picturesque Treviso was the place of lodging.
